Blog Marketing Scams and What You Should Be Aware of

What was once a great money-making opportunity has become an object of the usual suspicion whenever we talk about business online. Blog marketing is basically selling products, services, and all kinds of other stuff through the internet. It was once used as an online journal, an internet source where you can write and post whatever you feel like writing about. Blogs then began to become customized and members are allowed to upload and post all kinds of media as well in their blogs. If you want to emphasize on something you are writing about, you can also upload an image or a video in just one click of a button. Lots of blog marketers post all kinds of entries, usually for selling purposes in order to convince customers to buy from them. This became such a hype that a lot of people are signing up at blog hosting sites like Xanga, Blogger, and WordPress, and submitting them as paid blogs to certain companies.

Sounds pretty easy, right? Actually, this isn’t even half of the story.

So people began to blog about all kinds of topics that were interesting enough for readers to go to, and people were able to earn a lot of sideline profit from this. Not only were they able to exercise their potentials as writers, they were also able to earn four to six figure profits every month. But because of the easy accessibility of the blog marketing industry, many have attempted (and even succeeded) in inserting scams through blogs. They post attractive blog entries about products such as programs and online guides, offer promos and special offers at a certain price, and even manage to get people to join in their affiliate groups and spread the package along. For those who are unaware or who do not know how to tell a scam from a real blog marketing campaign, it is important that you know how to avoid these blog marketing scams before the culprits take advantage of you, your money, and disappear without a single trace at all.

So how do you avoid blog marketing scams? You simply have to familiarize yourself with them. By doing some background research on scams and what are the most common campaigns being utilized by scammers, you will be able to detect those that are pretty obvious and those that are so persuasive and so believable. Most people do not know how to tell if a scam is right in front of them or not, so it is important that you know the signs of a potential blog marketing scam before it hits you right in the face. Now, this may prove difficult at first since scams are supposed to be well hidden, but there are those that are bound to resurface and someone else will be able to blog about it. Articles can also give you the 411 on what to do when faced with a blog marketing scam and these can be found all over the internet.

The easiest way to tell if it is a scam is; “If it sounds too good to be true, then it usually is”. There are so many offers that tell you how you can be earning $10000 a month….yeah sure, too good to be true and so it is BS.

I agree with Sire; if it sounds too good to be true, than it is.” You can make money blogging, but if you really want to be a success, your focus should be on providing quality information and writing for your readers. If you focus on this, traffic will come, and you will build up a loyal following.

Hi Scott Mahler. Welcome to BlogRiffic and hope to read more of your comments in the future.

I second that with what you are saying. Dedication on prividing quality content for your readers will do the trick and never be so quick on selling them things as that for many is a huge turn off.

    • Sire says:

The problem with that Scott is that it requires work and the people that fall for these scams are looking for the easy way to make money. The problem is there is no easy way unless you win the lottery.

  3. I tend to steer clear of any “promotional” posts unless I’m seriously interested in the product, and even then, I never actually follow through affiliate links unless I really like the site/blogger and want to support it. While lots of bloggers join affiliate programs just to generate some serious cash, I appreciate those of us who take time to rep a quality product.

Same here, I don’t really follow any promotional post’s unless I know the blogger, like their work, and have some sort of reputation for them going on then we can work something out.

Thanks for stopping by, your comment is very much appreciated.

It’s sad, but I think there’s a lot to be said for embracing the “be skeptical” (maybe even “be cynical”) mentality when you see anyone pushing something online.

It also helps to just follow the bloggers that have been around for a while and built up a reputation. People who have a lot riding on reputations they’ve been building for a while are a lot less likely to promote anything spammy or scammy.

      Hi Lindsay.

Yes bloggers who you know have been around for long time helps as they are less likely to scam you since they have a reputation to look after/keep.

I never bought an Internet Marketing package in my entire life and kind of proud :) hehe, not that I think they are all scam, but just that I think if you visit enough blog and build relationships with people that have some good knowledge you’re good to go. Just add a bit of creativity…

But how to recognize a scam? I guess when you see “Make 1,000$ a day overnight”, it’s a good sign ;)

Ben Tremblays last blog post..BenTremblay: @Rarst That’s OK because I post like once every two months! haha ;) That’s the thing with Google traffic, you get used to it! :(

“People buy from those they know and trust”…and oldie but a goodie and 100% correct.

I guess just like everywhere else in the world scams have to make their way into blogs- there are always some people who just have to see who they can take advantage of.

I agree with some of the other comments- I will buy from people who I trust and have followed. A lot of times I will go to someone’s site, see something, go research it, and then go back and buy it from the person who I found it with.

  9. You are right about familiarizing yourself with the Internet landscape. Just doing that will help you avoid a lot of this madness out here. Doing your research on the company is on point, also.

I just prefer to get involved with the Internet and familarize myself with everything before breaking out the wallet and buying everything I see. There is a lot to be aware of out here in the Net, but it call can be understood and you can save yourself some unnecessary pain.

  10. “if it sounds too good to be true”

The too good to be true can be a sign of any scams blog or non blog.

Aside from this can you give specific examples of other warning signs?

    • salwa says:

      Hi there Gerald

Hhm aside from that, other warning signs would be:

      - Outrageous claims: No Experience Needed, No Work, Make $$$ Of Money Overnight! {Yeh right}!
      - If promised a six figure income in the first year then the only one making the money is the scammer.
      - If a fee is required to sign up, avoid.
      - If the affiliate banners have lots of flashy lights, and movement to attract attention there is a reason behing it – typically not good.
      - Testimonials that you cannot cross-Check

That’s all I can come up with right now but i am sure there still lot more out there and you just gave me an idea of a new post :)

  11. Great Post. I love anykind of news. Cheers for the information.
