The internet craze today is blog monetization. Bloggers want to make money from their content, and do it in the least expensive way possible. There are a lot of ways in which bloggers are venturing into the capital world to make extra money off their blogging content. Blog monetization can be a highly effective way to generate revenue from your content. There are several useful ways to do so.
The first option is to use online advertisers like Google Adsense. These advertisers buy space from a blogger on their webpage. The blogger gets paid according to the number of hits and traffic that the blog generates for that particular ad. If a blogger is looking for someone to do the monetization process for them, this is the best option. The advertisers will create the banner ads and manage the hits and payments. The usual deterrent to this method is that the blogger is only getting a percentage of the profits.

The next option in blog monetization is plug-ins. Plug-ins, such as WordPress plug-ins, allows bloggers to find and disperse advertisements for their blog space automatically. This method cuts out any “middle man” so that more profit can go to the blogger. Banners are the most popular form of this. Banner ads are ads placed on web pages that advertise a product. For every hit that is received, the blogger who sells the space receives a percentage of the profits. With plug-ins, the blogger does them himself. One might ask, “can I have too many ads” on my blog?” The answer: no. You will know when there is too much or if the ads are not working when you start losing money and advertisers pull out of the space. OIO Publisher by WordPress has gained a decent reputation as a do-it-yourself way to make money from your blog.
A blogger must build up a reader base first. If a blog only has a handful of readers, than advertisers are not going to want to buy space. Before trying to monetize, a blogger should refine the content of the blog and focus on bringing readers to the page. Also, ads can deter readers. Choosing the right ads for the space in important. A blog whose content is mainly celebrity based, is not going to want to have an ad for a real estate agency. The ads must be conducive to the kinds of readers that are attracted to the blog. The site content must be specific, and fall into a particular niche that will draw readers.
Blogging has become an internet phenomenon, and has found itself to be a lucrative enterprise for young and old alike. The key to creating a successful blog depends on the content, writing skills, and the ability to attract and keep advertisers. Blog monetization has helped many individuals find a self sustaining way of generating income by doing something they enjoy. It can either be a hobby or turn into a full time job in-and-of itself.

Great Post! I think its important to note that a blog should not be monetized immediately but should be gradually monetized. Good to see this post!

That is very true. Most bloggers tend to jump to blog monetization without due consideration for anything else, the most important of all is do you have enough contents on your blog. It’s like putting the cart before the horse.

Great info. I agree with Enkay about gradually monetizing a blog. I see so many new blogs (especially over at mybloglog) that are full of ads with barely any content. It’s best to start out with a few posts and then gradually add more ads as the amount of content on your site increases.

Excellent post. I second that emotion, James. Lots of bloggers fail to keep their eye on the ball in that respect. All they see is the cash being made by the big bloggers and want to be the same.
Nothing wrong with that at all. However they don’t take into account how many years of often full time work the likes of Darren Rowse of Problogger fame (a blogging genius of a man) have put into it to reach the levels of success they’re at now. It takes time and a lot of blood, sweat and tears to get advertisers happy to pay the rates he charges. They pay because he’s good and writes exceptionally high quality material people want to read. Anyone wanting to follow in his footsteps should do the same.
Blogging’s like anything else – you get out of it what you put into it.
Many of the blog sites that I have come across which uses adsense or any other monetization methods publish content mostly on blogging tips, adsense, technology, gadget reviews etc. I wonder if personal blogs can ever monetize themselves. By personal I mean, just opinions, thoughts, views, reviews, their takes, and few personal happenings… If ever I come across such sites, they have a huge archive, but they never have even one ad… I wonder is there any link between topic of the content and earning money…
Some just think that monetizing their blogs is very easy. Well it takes real patience and hard work. You cannot become a millionaire overnight.
