Is free blog right for you

By now you may have read a lot about what blogging is, how you can earn from it, what are the best tips, where and how to host your blog, etc. Whether your blog is for fun, just to share your thoughts or if it is for serious business and you plan to generate revenue that should help you decide whether you should go for free blog hosting platforms like Bloggers, or if you should have your own blog space and use self-hosting blog spaces offered by platforms like WordPress.

A self-hosted blog will always give you the flexibility of designing and creating the blog such that it suits all your needs and business objectives. Imagine people visiting your blog to buy products, to download songs, to watch videos – you would want that to be as user-friendly as possible. Such options can be customized if you host the blog space yourself.

If you want to earn from your blog, the best step forward is that you have the control. This is not quite possible in case of a free blogging platform. In case of free blogging platforms, the control lies with the company. They can bar the advertisements that can be published on your blog or can shut down your blog without any prior notice, if your blog breaches the stipulated guidelines. It is thus important that the blog space that you are using gives you more control to edit and update as per your business goals.

Remember that you need to create fantastic content and keep a steady flow of traffic, only then will you be able to utilize your blog for revenue generation. For the first six months, dedicate your time and attention
towards generating readership. All of that is possible if you have a self-hosting blog space, where you can control traffic flow, keep a feed on your visitors, read their pulse and customize your blog space based on the user feedback. However, if blogging is for fun and you are not sure of how long you may continue doing this then probably a free portal is best for you.

Yaro Starak, a young Australian entrepreneur making it big in the blogging world says, “At the moment I am loving nothing more than writing and podcasting for this blog and other websites. I have a hundred gazillion
different topics I want to create content for and many different ways to package this content up, but for the moment the best tool I have is this blog, so I’m using it. I’m braindumping as much as I can so that eventually I’ll have enough content to do all kinds of things, and as a great benefit I grow a nice readership along the way.” So, no matter how big you are, and how much money you are earning from your blog, it is important that you have complete control over your blog and work hard towards generating and maintaining a strong readership. This motive should guide your blogging platform.

Self hosted anyday. The freedom it allows you is way too good. On hosted blogs there is only so much you are allowed to do.

  2. A free blog sure does fit the needs of certain users. I know a person who uses a free blog to display his predictions of the results of some sports matches, and he is not looking for more than a site that is able to be updated, and the default theme is also enough for him.
