Link Building With News, Blogs, and Feeds

Because of the way search engines operate, it is essential to build links to your website or blog. When doing searches, search engines hunt through the internet and rank the results based upon which sites have the most links to them. So, if your site has a great number of quality links pointing to it, your site will be more likely to come up higher on the results page when someone does a web search for terms relating to your site topic.

Link building isn’t difficult. But, it is something a site owner should do carefully. This is because it isn’t wise to add links to just any other site to your website-some links will devalue your website. Search engines know that there are some link farms and other suspicious sites out there that people have developed for the sole purpose of link building; adding these links to your site can be detrimental to your site.

On the other hand, if you link to a highly trusted site-such as those ending in .edu or .gov-it can help your site. This is because the search engines recognize these sites as being reliable ones, so linking to them tells the search engine that your site or blog is reliable as well.

There are a few methods you can use to build links to your website. All can be somewhat time-consuming; however, they can help to drive traffic to your site; therefore, they are worthwhile to do.

First of all, you can use a news technique to get some links. Write a press release about something noteworthy that you are doing or that is happening-of course, make sure it is relevant to your website. Submit the press release to a legitimate press release service, such as PR.com. Do not submit it to any generic submission sites, as this will decrease the value of your press release. If your information is noteworthy enough, it could be published somewhere, providing you with very effective links.

An RSS feed (Really Simple Syndication feed) can help you to get links as well. If you set up an RSS feed for your website at one of the major feed reader sites, you can get two benefits from it. First of all, readers of your feed may decide to link to one of your specific articles. Secondly, you can provide your own links by making a static HTML page. Most major feed reader sites have this feature. You can make a HTML page with anywhere from 10 to 30 links on it, submit the page to your favorite social bookmarking site (such as del.icio.us), and then you have those links pointing back to your site.

Aside from these methods, you can use a blog to generate links for your website. Start a blog with related topic to your website, or even as a part of your website. Then, link from your blog to your website in several places, encouraging visitors of your blog to visit your website. Your blog links will count as links in the search engines.
