Blogs, especially those used for selling and advertising purposes, are created to invite more visitors and convince them to buy products and services. Therefore, the more visitors you have, the greater the chances of them clicking your links and generating greater profit. If you fail to draw visitors, it is indeed bad news for your business. You might be committing some of the biggest blogging don’ts, which include:
Lack of response. Show your readers you care by responding to queries and questions meaningfully. Failing to do so will give them the impression that you are ignoring them and thus, prevent them from buying your products.
Failure to update. The Internet is a fast-paced world and the most successful blogs are those who update their content regularly. Long intervals of fresh updates might spell out neglect for your reader, who might be turned off if they see that your latest post is dated weeks or months ago. Regular updates make your readers thirsty for more and give them a sense of security that there will always be something new every time they come back.
Staying anonymous. Readers love to see the face and the whole person behind every blog. Some bloggers hide under pseudonyms and photos not their own for their own purposes. But if you are out there to promote something, you owe it to your potential customers to introduce yourself and speak about what you are selling as extensively as possible.
Cluttered pages. Advertisements and other unnecessary widgets sometimes give readers headaches. Be choosy in posting advertisements and your ad placement. Make sure the ads you post and the widgets you embed are relevant to your content. Remember that your copy is still your main “act.” Emphasize it as much as you can. Make it easier for your visitors to read your content by choosing pleasing font and background colors.
Useless content. Some bloggers have the tendency to post entries of more than a thousand words without really imparting any useful information. Maintaining quality in your blog entries will keep your readers hooked. You do not need to be a professional editor or writer to determine if you are already being redundant or whether your copy is still making sense.
Carelessness. Carelessness in what you post, grammatically and content-wise, could make you suffer consequences in the long term. Keep in mind that whatever you put online would stay there for years to come so be extra careful. Run over your copy one more time to check for typo or grammatical errors before publishing. Double check your facts. Readers follow blogs which they deem credible and reliable.
Not giving credit to sources. The Internet is full of unwilling watchdogs. If yo u get content from another site and repost it, make sure that you state the website where you got it from. There are no strict copyright rules on the net but crediting your sources is basic ethics. Even the photos you use should be properly credited. Failure to do so will give you more online enemies, especially if your source is a popular and well-loved blog.

Had a major eye opener today at blogging for MMO. Here is the result.
http://revenuereservoir.com/2008/12/19/this-blog-doesnt-make-money-online-its-all-bullshit/
Hi there Ben Moreno. Welcome to BlogRiffic
Thanks for the link. I just checked it out and well for me i think getting into MMO at this time it is a waste of time. The niche was hot when it started but not anymore. The competition is waaaaaaaaaay to high to succeed and even thou we are often told don’t ever think “the competition is too high, i won’t succeed” as that may be true but doesnt hurt if you can go to different direction where there’s more chance for you.
Just my 2 cents
Good set of reasong from you… Really blogger should take care of all these things to make his blog rock…
Thank you Pavan Kumar for your comment. Appreciated.
Hey, long time, I have not been around. Don’t hold that against me, been kind of busy, but I am back for now.
Anyway, good list. The comment that really caught my eye was on Cluttered pages. This is something that i am going to clean up on my blog. Well, not pages, but my side bar is a bit cluttered.
I think this stems from not having a clear vision for your blog and just moving before think. I know that was and is my problem. I just jumped in and got involved, but now that I have learned a few things I am realizing that I have a lot of work to do. But recognition is the first step to solving a problem.
Thanks for sharing!

Hiiii Freddie,
Nice to see you here after errm a year or so?! lol (just playing) but hey it is really nice to see you and no don’t worry I cant do that
Good list buddy! The point I really think is important and you mentioned it is “staying anonymous”. People want to get personal with you and they like to know a “real person” is running the blog. Showing your face is the way to go

Thanks Ben, glad you like the list.
Dude, I agree with all your points, but I couldn’t agree more with the first four.
Nice post, keep it up.
Thank you
Carelessness is one of my biggest peeves, which is why I usually take longer proof reading a post, then it took to write it! LOL
Dennis Edells last blog post..Free Permanent BackLinks: Are You A Subscriber Or Follow Me On Twitter?
LOL Dennis! I am sometime’s like that. Thanks for stopping by!
Good points all. I especially like the part about not giving credit to others. Not only will this alienate you when found out, but giving credit where credit is due will ultimately provide a better response from the reader as well as the original author.
Sires last blog post..Does Google Control Your Blog?
yup and fail to do so might find your self with unnecessary hassle!
This last point “Not giving credit to sources” I think is the most important. Actually the Digital Millennium Copywright Act is a law that protects original online content that is copywritten.

I would say Failure to update is my biggest problem.
Andrei Buius last blog post..A post about making money
I think many of us are straggling from the same thing!
Failure to update blog might be the reason why my blog isn’t growing as fast as it is supposed to. However, this also bores down to the topic that the blog is covering and may or may not affect the quality of the blog. Great thoughts in here.

Thank you for your input Wei.
Nice collection of tips. I think lack of updating is probably the number one reason readers will cease visiting your blog. Number two (for me, at least) would be the cluttered pages. I hate when bloggers have ads and offers all over the place!
Corey Freemans last blog post..Website Updates
oh cluttered pages and blogs full of ads and offers to me is so annoying and just gives me bad impression about the blogger.
Now I seriously feels that my blog sucks! Though it’s a different reason that I was on bedrest for last few days.
Thanks for reminding me that I need to update my Blog and get updated from other Blogs too
Lol Himanshu and no problem you welcome. Anytime
I like this post, but I’m going to comment on the topic about useless content. As a writer in general, even though we all want to have consistent readers, I tend to believe that writers write for themselves first, and if they like what they write then there’s a chance others will like what they write. Useless is usually in the eye of the beholder. For instance, I could care less about cars, yet there are some people who who hold on to every word of an article about cars.
Now, if one’s goal is to write about how to build cars, but instead they’re always writing about drag racing or making cakes, yeah, I’d say that person may not be reaching the audience they said they were trying to reach. But overall, if one sticks to their general topic, they can be allowed to deviate from time to time.
Of course, with my blog title, I can deviate whenever I want to.
Branding and making your blog unique and not one of millions of sub-standard ones is perhaps one of the most challenging things a blogger has to do. Finding and developing your unique blogging style that you feel comfortable, one that shows yourself as the real you is also important.

I think the most critical points there are these 2:
Failure to update and Lack of Response.
Lack of these 2 said point may cause major drop on your traffic and returning visitors. A very informative post and I’ve realized that this is very good blog for fellow bloggers, even elite bloggers. Keep up the good work!
